Caring for Your Clothes

At A Kid Called Ed, we believe childhood should be messy, magical, and full of energy — and your child’s clothes should be ready for all of it. With a little love and care, the natural fibres we use can last longer, feel better, and even be passed on to the next little adventurer. Taking a few simple steps can keep garments soft, colourful, and resilient, so they survive mud puddles, playground chaos, and years of play.

Why Natural Fibres Matter

Our pieces are made from breathable, high-quality fabrics like organic cotton, linen, and wool. Natural fibres are soft, durable, and gentle on sensitive skin, making them perfect for everyday adventures. Unlike synthetic fabrics, they breathe naturally, regulate temperature, and develop a lovely lived-in feel over time. But they do need a bit of TLC — washing carefully, avoiding excessive heat, and storing thoughtfully ensures that colours stay vibrant, shapes stay true, and fabrics stay soft. Proper care means your child can enjoy their favourite pieces longer, and those pieces can be loved by another little adventurer after them.

Tips to Keep Clothes Looking Great

Wash with care – Always use a gentle, eco-friendly detergent and cold water whenever possible. Hot water and harsh chemicals can shrink, fade, or damage fibres, so treating fabrics gently is the best way to extend their life.

Turn it inside out & bag it up – Printed, embroidered, or delicate details deserve extra protection. Wash these pieces inside out in a laundry bag to keep designs bright, stitches safe, and threads from snagging. This simple step helps clothes stay looking like new, even after countless washes.

Treat stains quickly – Childhood is full of spills, smudges, and mud puddles. Treat stains as soon as you notice them — spot clean with mild soap or soak in cold water before a full wash. Quick attention often prevents permanent marks and keeps fabrics happy.

Skip the dryer – Air-drying is gentler on natural fibres. Heat from tumble dryers can shrink cotton, felt wool, or delicate knits and wear fabrics down faster. Hanging outside or laying flat to dry preserves shape and softness.

Fold, don’t hang – Knits, soft cottons, and delicate fabrics hold their shape better when folded. Hanging can stretch shoulders and distort the silhouette, especially on smaller garments. Folding neatly helps them look great and last longer.

Rotate & share – Hand-me-downs are magical! Rotating clothes between siblings, friends, or donating gently used items helps garments live longer, reduces waste, and spreads a little joy (and adventure) to another child. Every rotation adds to the story of a garment, making it more than just clothing — it’s part of childhood memories.
